The 75th Golden Globes’ Award couldn’t get more colourful than black last night. It would leave a long-lasting imprint on the society especially in the lives of the entire black community as it was the first time the award night was dominated by female voices. All the gagged women of Hollywood have been ungagged by the #Metoo and #TimeisUp movement. Giving a run to all the Hollywood women and men abusers. You can ask Harvey Weinstein and Kelvin Spacey.

Oprah Winfrey is the first and only black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille which was presented by Actress Reese Witherspoon, her co-star in the upcoming Disney film ‘A Wrinkle in Time. She began her speech by acknowledging Sidney Poitier — an eventual Cecil B. DeMille winner himself — receiving the best actor Oscar in 1964 for Lilies of the Field – hoping that she might inspire today’s children the way he inspired her then.

“There are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to receive this award,” she said, setting the tone for a speech that aimed to kick-start a new dawn for women in Hollywood.

“Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” she said.

“And I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up. … I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed, bills to pay and dreams to pursue.” Winfrey told the story of Recy Taylor, a black woman who was gang-raped by six white men in 1944. Taylor died only Dec. 28, at age 97, and Winfrey hoped she was encouraged to see a time when assault victims were not only heard but believed.

“I just hope that Recy Taylor died knowing that her truth, like the truth of so many other women who were tormented in those years and even now tormented, goes marching on.”

She also touted the imperatives of a free press which is currently facing several onslaughts, echoing last year’s winner Meryl Streep who dedicated a quality amount of time gracefully slamming Donald Trump even though she didn’t call out his name, well who else abused a handicapped journalist?.

Frankly, Oprah’s acceptance speech deserves the ovation it got, having touched on the sexual misconduct and the injustice happening in the industry and the world at large. If Oprah Winfrey ever decides to run for president — as fans have implored her to do for years — her acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at Golden Globes could double as her first stump speech. It certainly had Hollywood on its feet. She ended the triumphant speech by promising the younger generation that a new day is on the horizon.

Other interesting highlights of the events was the shade Natalie Portman threw while presenting the award for Best Director alongside Ron Howards stating the obvious that no woman was nominated in that category. A kind of advocacy for women of Hollywood to embrace directing the more

” And here are the all-male nominees,” She said before reading out the nominees list, which was won by Guillermo Del Toro.

As predicted, “Big Little Lies” bagged the awards for Best Actress and best-limited series against Ryan Murphy’s Feud perhaps owing to it’s on focus Domestic Violence and abuse on the society which has become a trending controversial issue. Sterling K.Brown also took home the award for best actor in a lead role for best drama for ‘This is us’ ( he is the only black lead in the series).he also took home Emmy awards for best actor in the same category last year.
