The black entertainment communities in America are not giving up in fighting for change using their different talents. Their hard works were rewarded Monday night by the NAACP Image Awards held in Pasadena, California, honoring the best of the bests in black pop culture and giving them the motivation to do more.
The show was hosted by the American actor, comedian, writer, and game show host Anthony Anderson. With some of our favorite actors and musicians smiling home with their well-deserved awards, we just can’t stop celebrating.
Top of our list is the cast of Insecure and Black-ish, Ava Duvernay, Jackie Aina, Tiffany Haddish, Daniel Kaluuya, Idris Elba and many more. Nigerian YouTuber Jackie Aina won the first ever YouTuber of the Year Award while Ava DuVernay was honored with the Entertainer of the Year Award.
Daniel Kaluuya, won for Outstanding Actor In a Motion Picture for his role in the thriller, ‘Get Out’, while Idris Elba took home two awards, one for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special for his role in the controversial, London-set historical crime drama ‘Guerrilla’, and another for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in “Thor: Ragnarok.”
Tiffany Haddish, Eritrean-American comedian also won two awards. She took home Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for ‘Girls Trip’, as well as Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for ‘Legends of Chamberlain Heights’. Ugandan-Rwandan music star, Somi took home an award for Outstanding Jazz Album for Petite Afrique.
