Mr. Romantic of Marvin’s Crew just kicked off 2018 with the release of a song – Melanin Popping – followed by an accompanying video after moments of silence since after he dropped his debut album, Beloved.
Except for the few times, he was featured in some songs like Sarkodie’s Far Away and Bracket’s Just Like That tracks, Korede Bello has been underground. The released song was as usual produced by Mavin Records’ in-house producer, Altims but we are still confused on the magic Korede tried to pull in the music video as he somehow contradicted his focus.
The confusion started from the Melanin popping black women, all dressed in black and making a march in what seemed like a black women’s protest. And just when we’re about to wrap our thoughts on what it is they are trying to portray, he confuses us with the celebration of chocolate skin yet extolling black feminine beauty.
With a sheer not so cool change of the beat the song transits into an old-school disco funk more like Daft Punk’s I Like It and ends with Korede Bello showing off his inner Michael Jackson vibes. We’re just wondering what he did in that colourful video.
